BEIJING, CONVENTIONS AND OTHER MUSINGS..

The Beijing Games are over and I kind of miss them...and kind of not. I guess this time I was more or less a fair weather Olympic watcher. I love to swim, so watching Michael Phelps breaking records right and left to become the winningest Gold Medal Olympian....ever.....was a thrill. You'd have to be one hard hearted old bastard not to appreciate the discipline and sheer tenacity Phelps and his teammates put on display during the swimming competition. And what about runner Usain Bolt from Jamaica...he was just beyond belief. Everyone else appeared to be standing still beside him.

Week two of the games found me less enthusiastic, but I managed to watch a competition or two here and there. The ladies beach volleyball team Gold Medal was a thrill to see. And by the way....did any of you really think the Chinese girl's gymnasts were 16 years old. I thought not.

I cannot say I was all that thrilled with opening and closing ceremonies. With deepest apologies to all of you who found it spectacular, I found it be wayyyyyy overly nationalistic (albeit colorful). When Beijing was granted the 2008 Summer Games, I was personally against it, and I stand by my feelings on the matter. The Chinese government is still the great intimidator of its people. It remains to be seen if hosting the Olympic Games will bring about any kind of change with the powers that be.

This week is the Democratic National Convention...otherwise known as Bill and Hill take Denver without firing a single shot. I thought dragging poor old Ted Kennedy outta his hospital bed to unite the floundering faithful was a bit over the top......but oh noooooo.......the Bill and Hill show topped it all. Really...my all time favorite moment...my very favorite...was when Bill mouthed "I Love You Forever..." to Hill just as the camera found him. There you go...timing is everything. Bill had his turn at the podium last night. Thus, two of the biggest hounddogs in democratic history (not counting JFK) had the faithful dems crying in their beer and swearing allegiance to just about anything. Now unless you think me biased.....I am a Republican right down to my large sized panties....so just you wait until next week and the Repubs hustle up John McCain and his POW stories. Now that's drama. Stay tuned folks.

Ray and I traveled last weekend to Kamp L with Ozzy. Grandson Oz is two years old...and I'm telling you he's feeling it. We made it home pooped....but we had a good time nonetheless. Now we have to find some special time for Odie Bug...he's only 14 months old...so that mission is slightly easier...and Odie still naps! Hooray!

Obviously I'm not the most regular of bloggers...but I do try and add a bit here and there. I think of things all the time I would like to write about, and then by the time I get to the computer the thought is gone. Comes from being 53 I think. Or maybe its just me.

Anywho...for all who dark in this door...thank you. Leave me a comment or two. And be polite please. As Tigger would say....TTFN!

Cake with French Fries and Ketchup...

Well my friends, it has been a good day. Typical August weather...hot and dry...and my dear husband's 56th birthday. We got up early and met Ryan, Oz and Odie at Bounce U for some head poppin' fun. I tried my best to get into the swing of things....but my crazy hip said "no". Pappaw, however, was all about that bounce. Wore himself out traipsing up and down this huge inflatable slide, pushing Oz. Then in a quick second...down they came..arms and legs flying. Odie got into the spirit of things by mostly trying to run out the bounce room door. Since he just started to walk, he's usually easily corralled...for now. After an hour everyone, including me (at this stage in life my thermostat is broke), was dripping in sweat and, to put it bluntly, pooped. Oz headed on home with us...Ryan took Odie and went home to study.

Oz did not take a nap...and that's regrettable. We went to Fayette Mall so Oz could play in the preschool area, pushed him around in one of those red car stroller thingys and then onto Frisch's for supper. Here's where the cake and ketchup comes in. The folks in the booth just behind us ordered dessert of ...you guessed it...Frisch's Hot Fudge Cake...and that's exactly what Oz wanted. He proceeded to let everyone in Frisch's know about it too. Our God send of a waitress brought our supper and a small portion of Hot Fudge Cake (it deserves capital letters don't you think) for Oz. So...Oz had cake, fries, fish and ketchup for his supper. Mostly in that order too. I reckon this will be another one of those things we won't tell Matt and Ryan about. In fact, I'm certain of it.

Ray got a table saw and some sort of work bench thing for his birthday. He's thrilled. Now if he just doesn't cut one or more of his fingers off...we're golden.

Oz got his bath in Mammaw's beloved "big" tub and has long since been on the third snore. Pappaw too, which is why I'm here waiting for reruns of Sex and the City. That's been the day...mighty fine for us all...well maybe not so much for some of the supper crowd at Frisch's! On that note...'night everyone. TTFN
